Through the Night
Through the Night
Night falls but the stars above ignite the darkness with a canopy of cascading light and color.
Hope had once felt lost, but my soul finds strength as I lift my eyes to the One who restores peace to my anxious heart.

This piece had started out as an entirely different painting, and the whole process felt “off”, like I was forcing something out that wasn’t inside of me. The painting I originally had started with was meant to be a piece of hope for the anxious heart. But as I painted, I began to feel tension and anxiety within my own self and could tell it was showing up in the work I was doing. I asked God what to do with this piece because my heart felt so heavy. I had trouble sleeping and was restless until deciding to change directions. Instead of focusing on what I wanted to communicate through this piece, I decided to set my gaze on the One who would be speaking through it. So, although I was already sleep deprived, I decided to, quite literally, paint through the night to turn this piece into something completely different. I flipped the canvas sideways and everything else flowed from there. And as I worshipped, He moved through my brush and released hope in a totally new and fresh way.
As we set our gaze on the One who set the galaxies in motion and lit up the sky with His love, it’s near impossible to deny his goodness. His heart is stretched out above us in countless ways and we simply need lift our eyes to see Him. I’m constantly humbled to be called His.
“Give thanks to the Lord of Lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever;”Psalm 136:3-9

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”
